Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the schedule of the day?

This event is jam-packed with fun for the whole family! Here’s the plan:

7:45 a.m. Registration Begins
Registration will stay open until the Color Run begins, so please arrive at least 15 minutes before your event.

8:30 a.m. Cross-Country 5K
This is an unofficial, untimed 5K right here on our cross country course. The path is windy and can be muddy in the rain, so dress accordingly and please be careful!

9:30 a.m. Community Warm-Up
We are bringing the fun and energy to get you excited to get blasted with color!

9:45 a.m. Color Dash
This event is for our youngest friends to take part in the festivities as well! Kids age 0-5 (or those who don’t want to do a full lap) can participate in a short dash to get their color on.

10 a.m. Color Run Begins!
Weave through the cross country course for up to 3 laps getting doused in color by Far Hills faculty, staff, and student volunteers.

10:30 a.m.-noon Outdoor Carnival
Stay for some more fun after the races!

Do I need to be a runner to participate?

No way! This isn’t your typical timed 5K. The Trick or Trot is a family-friendly event that welcomes walkers, joggers, runners, whatever you are! Complete up to 3 laps on the cross country course doing the activity of your choice and walk away looking like a rainbow.

I want to do it all! How do I register?

Registration will reopen as we get closer to the date.

You can select the events you’d like to participate in while registering.

What is the cost to register?

There is one admission fee of $35 per person. This enables you to take part in all the events of the day!

What do I receive with my registration?

All registrants who sign up by October 18 are guaranteed a commemorative t-shirt to wear on the day of the race and one individual packet of color. Registrants also have the option to purchase a swag bag with accessories when they register online. Limited quantities are available.

I’ve heard about this colored powder stuff. Is that safe for my family?

Yes, the colored powder used is nontoxic and FD&C and D&C approved. Translation: it won’t stain if washed off after the race with soap and water and is completely safe for children. Try your best not to ingest it, but if you do, there should be no problems.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes, FH requires a signed waiver for every participant. Click here to print yours!

Can I run with my best furry friend?

For the safety of all participants, we do not allow animals here on campus.

How is the color administered during the race?

The race will begin with all participants tossing color from their individual bags into the air (just wait for the photo op!). After that, there will be color stations set up throughout the course where Far Hills faculty, staff, students, and friends will try their best to get you as messy as possible.

What should I wear?

The color mostly washes out after the event, but we advise wearing something that you aren’t afraid to get a little dirty. Other than that, accessorize as much as your heart desires with all the colors of the rainbow. Don’t forget to wear white!

Will the color stain the inside of my car?

We will do our best to help you leave as “clean” as possible. Don’t miss our leaf blowing stations as you exit the carnival! Even so, we advise that you lay towels or blankets in your car to avoid staining.

We are participating in the color dash for kids and have a lot of extra time to wait before the carnival. What should we do?

Adults and children who are waiting between the dash and carnival will be able to take part in a group craft activity on campus. Parent supervision at this station is required. Stay tuned for more information!

What happens if there is inclement weather?

Color runs get even brighter and more fun in the rain, so we will continue as planned rain or shine! The outdoor carnival may be canceled depending on how severe the weather is. Please check our website in the days leading up to the race and that morning to confirm.

Ok, I just registered! Now what?

Spread the word! Invite your friends and family to come run with us. Don’t forget to grab all the accessories you need, monitor the weather, and bring in your signed waiver. Be on the lookout for information about picking up your race packets soon!

I have more questions! Who can I contact?

Please contact Amy Rowland in the Development Office at arowland@fhcds.org with any questions about the event.
