Winter Athletics Recap: A Season of Growth, Grit, and Falcon Pride

The 2025–26 winter athletics season at Far Hills Country Day School was defined by steady growth, resilience, and a deep sense of Falcon pride. Across every program, our student-athletes demonstrated commitment, sportsmanship, and a willingness to improve each time they stepped onto the court, rink, strip, or court.

Ice Hockey: Growth, Grit, and Team Unity

The hockey season opened with strong energy and an exciting early win that set a positive tone for the winter. As January progressed, the team focused on sharpening passing, strengthening communication, and tightening defensive zone coverage. Close matchups and hard-fought contests helped build confidence and cohesion, and by mid-season, their collaboration and positivity were clearly translating into consistent, competitive play. Momentum carried into tournament action, where the Falcons showcased their composure, offensive strength, and team-first mentality. The season concluded with a 5–1 MSAC Championship victory over The Peck School at Twin Oaks Arena—a meaningful milestone that reflected months of dedication and steady improvement.

Boys’ Basketball: Competitive from Start to Finish

The Boys’ Basketball team tipped off the season with a spirited home opener and embraced a challenging schedule throughout the winter. Early games provided valuable experience against quick, physical opponents, and the team steadily developed stronger defensive intensity and a more fluid offensive rhythm. Younger players gained confidence as the weeks progressed, while eighth graders offered steady leadership and consistency. Several contests came down to the final minutes, highlighted by clutch shots, key rebounds, and determined fourth-quarter pushes. By season’s end, the growth in ball movement, defensive pressure, and overall camaraderie was clear.

Girls’ Basketball: Confidence and Breakthrough Moments

Operating in a flexible, club-style format, the Girls’ Basketball team opened the season building confidence and refining fundamentals. Each week brought noticeable improvement in motion offense, defensive steals, and transition play. Mid-season, the team delivered a decisive 19–7 victory that showcased dominant defense, confident scoring, and strong teamwork. Even in tightly contested matchups, the Falcons demonstrated hustle, resilience, and unwavering positivity. Their commitment to improvement and support for one another defined the season.

Volleyball: Building Skills and Team Chemistry

Volleyball began just before Winter Break and carried positive momentum into January. The A team earned key early victories, fueled by consistent serving and improved communication. As the season progressed, their net play and on-court chemistry continued to strengthen. The B team—many new to competitive volleyball—showed impressive development throughout the winter. Close sets and comeback efforts highlighted their growing confidence and teamwork. By tournament time, both teams were playing some of their most cohesive volleyball of the season, reflecting the steady progress made week after week.

Fencing: Focus, Precision, and Progress

The Fencing team began the season by refining foundational techniques and preparing for early meets. Through January and into February, athletes sharpened their reaction time, practiced extensively on the electric strips, and competed with increasing confidence. Bout scores grew tighter as the season progressed, demonstrating technical growth and improved strategic awareness. At the MSAC Tournament, the Falcons competed with focus and determination across foil, epee, and sabre, closing out the season with pride in their development and appreciation for the leadership of the eighth graders.

From start to finish, this winter season showcased the very best of Far Hills athletics—teamwork, perseverance, and a commitment to growth. Each program contributed to a season that will be remembered not only for its accomplishments, but for the character and unity displayed along the way.
