Grade 8 Students Showcase Curiosity and Creativity at Annual Expo

The Far Hills community came together to celebrate the ingenuity and dedication of our Grade 8 students at the annual Grade 8 Expo. The event transformed the Athletic Center into a vibrant hub of discovery, where each student shared the results of months of independent research and creative exploration.

Unlike a traditional project, the Expo allows students to pursue topics that ignite their personal curiosity. This year’s presentations reflected an impressive range of interests and thoughtful inquiry. Students explored the rise of artificial intelligence and its impact on society, examined the growing polarization in America, investigated the realities of human trafficking, and researched eating disorders within the dance community. Other projects focused on rising drug costs, the influence of gambling, sports-related topics, and a variety of scientific questions and innovations.

Students also explored wellness and mental health, including the pressures faced by actors and actresses, while others took a closer look at what goes on behind adventure and outdoor camps. One project even examined the evolving role of creativity in modern society through the lens of the “death of art.” Together, the projects showcased the depth of curiosity, critical thinking, and passion that define Far Hills’ oldest students.

“It was amazing to dive deeply into something I was genuinely curious about,” shared Caroline P., Grade 8 student and student President. “I learned so much more than I expected, and presenting it to family and classmates made all the hard work feel really rewarding.”

Throughout the process, students conducted extensive research, wrote formal papers, and designed engaging multimedia presentations to bring their topics to life. Many incorporated interactive elements and visual displays that captivated attendees, sparking conversations and encouraging curiosity among younger students, families, and faculty.

“Watching our Grade 8 students present their projects is always inspiring,” said Emily Seelaus, Director of Upper School. “The Expo is a true reflection of what happens when students are given the freedom to explore, create, and communicate their ideas. Each presentation demonstrates not only mastery of content, but also creativity, critical thinking, and confidence—skills that will serve them well as they move into high school and beyond.”

The Grade 8 Expo is more than a showcase of academic achievement—it’s a celebration of independent thought, creativity, and the joy of learning. From intricate scientific experiments to thoughtful social inquiries, each project highlighted the unique talents and curiosity of our students.

Congratulations to our Grade 8 students for their dedication, enthusiasm, and outstanding work. Their efforts remind the entire Far Hills community of the power of curiosity and the joy of discovery.
