Grade 8 Expo: Showcasing Passion, Curiosity, and Research
On Tuesday evening, June 3, and Wednesday morning, June 4, the Grade 8 Expo brought the Far Hills community together to celebrate the incredible work of our oldest students. This year’s Expo held even more significance, as it marked the 25th anniversary of this beloved Far Hills tradition—a milestone that highlights decades of student-driven research, creativity, and growth.
Over the course of several months, Grade 8 students engaged in a rigorous and rewarding process that mirrors the structure of the Kindergarten Wonder Project—beginning with curiosity. Each student selected a topic that reflected a personal passion, question, or connection to prior schoolwork, setting the foundation for deep, independent exploration. From there, students embarked on an academic journey that included extensive research, writing a formal research paper, and crafting an engaging multimedia presentation.
The variety of topics presented showcased the impressive range of interests and thoughtfulness of this year’s graduating class. Presentations explored everything from drone warfare, artificial intelligence, and microchip technology to obesity, energy drinks, agriculture, sports technology, social media, and the science behind phobias—just to name a few.
Held in the Performing Arts Center, the Expo captivated a packed audience of family members, faculty, alumni, and younger peers. Attendees were inspired by the students’ confident public speaking, thorough knowledge, and the passion they brought to their topics. Interactive components and visual displays added depth and creativity to their projects, sparking meaningful conversations and curiosity among those who visited.
The Grade 8 Expo is more than just a final project—it’s a culmination of years of learning at Far Hills and a powerful testament to what happens when students are given the tools, encouragement, and space to follow their curiosity. It builds essential skills in research, critical thinking, time management, and communication skills that will serve our students well as they prepare for high school and beyond.
Congratulations to our eighth graders for an outstanding achievement, and cheers to 25 years of this extraordinary tradition! Your hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm continue to inspire the entire Far Hills community.
