On Thursday, April 23, Far Hills Country Day School welcomed Grade 7 families, along with Grade 6 parents, for an engaging and insightful evening centered on the secondary school admissions journey. The annual Secondary School Admissions Panel brought together admissions leaders from Delbarton School, Newark Academy, Morristown-Beard School, The Pennington School, and Gill St. Bernard's School, offering families a rare opportunity to hear directly from those shaping admissions.
“This panel gives families the chance to hear directly from admissions directors in one place, ask questions, and start to understand how each school approaches the process,” Mr. Thompson said. “It’s a really helpful way to begin making sense of what can otherwise feel like a lot of information.”
The morning was moderated by Ed Thompson, who guided the conversation and encouraged panelists to share practical insights into what families can expect in the months ahead. Panelists spoke candidly about what they value in applicants, emphasizing qualities such as curiosity, character, resilience, and a willingness to engage in community life. While academic readiness remains important, the conversation highlighted a broader perspective—one that prioritizes authenticity and personal growth over perfection.
Families also gained insight into how to navigate the admissions process with intention, from crafting a genuine student voice to making the most of campus visits and interviews. The panelists encouraged students to reflect on their interests and goals, reminding families that the process is as much about self-discovery as it is about selection.
Following the discussion, the morning transitioned into a more personal experience, as families connected one-on-one with admissions representatives at individual tables. These conversations allowed for deeper exploration, giving students the chance to ask questions, share their interests, and begin envisioning their next chapter.
