A Championship Win—and a Community That Showed Up

The 5–1 victory over The Peck School in the MSAC Championship at Twin Oaks Arena will be remembered not only for the final score but for the extraordinary show of support that filled the stands.

Students and parents from both divisions packed the arena, joined by families whose children don’t play hockey, along with faculty, staff, and school leaders. From Lower School “littles” waving school colors to Upper School students bringing the energy, the rink was, as many described it, “bleeding green” for hours. The roar from the stands was constant and unforgettable.

After the final horn, one moment captured the heart of the day: following the handshake line, the team skated directly to the glass to celebrate with their classmates and friends. The reaction from the crowd said it all: pure joy, pride, and connection.

“This was about so much more than a championship game,” said Ron Sansone, Director of Athletics and coach. “The level of support from our community was incredible. Our student-athletes felt it, and it made this moment even more meaningful.” Coach Shane Gorman agreed, noting the impact the crowd had on the team. “The energy in that rink was something special,” she shared. “Seeing students, families, faculty, and staff all come together gave our team a boost at exactly the right moment. Events like this remind us how special and supportive our community is.”

Parents' Committee Chair Alison Meyer P'24,'26,'27 echoed that sentiment in a message following the game, sharing that parents across multiple grades were buzzing with excitement. Many remarked that it was one of the most fun school events they had attended, and some even noted that their children don’t play hockey at all. As Alison wrote, “What happened Wednesday went way beyond hockey and truly showed all that is good and special about our school. Our community showed up.”

From the early dismissal and all-school spirit day to the packed stands and shared celebration, the championship embodied the very best of our community, school pride, connection, and wholehearted support for our students.

Congratulations to our Upper School hockey team on a remarkable championship, and thank you to everyone who helped make it a day our community won’t soon forget.
