Lower School Closing Exercises Celebrate Growth and New Beginnings

On Wednesday, June 10, Far Hills Country Day School gathered to celebrate Lower School Closing Exercises, recognizing the accomplishments, milestones, and growth of students throughout the year. Families, faculty, and students came together to honor a year of learning and community while looking ahead to the opportunities that await next year.

A special moment during the ceremony came when Grade 4 students Serena D. '30 and Brymm A. '30 reflected on their Lower School experiences. Serena shared fond memories from her years at Far Hills, recalling everything from exploring big questions through her Kindergarten Wonders project to developing perseverance while creating her Adventure America landmark in Grade 3. Her reflections highlighted the curiosity, confidence, and resilience that have shaped her Lower School journey.

Brymm reflected on the friendships, challenges, and experiences that shaped her time in Lower School, sharing, “All of these memories made me who I am today, and I hope to make more memories like these in the Upper School.” Her remarks captured both gratitude for the years behind her and excitement for the opportunities ahead.

The beloved tradition of crossing the bridge once again served as a powerful symbol of transition. Each student crossed to mark their advancement to the next grade level, greeted by cheers from classmates, families, and faculty. For Grade 4 students, the moment carried special significance as they crossed the bridge for the final time before beginning their Upper School journey.

Director of Lower School Pat Barry reflected on the significance of the day, celebrating not only students’ academic achievements but also the relationships, character, and sense of belonging developed throughout the year.

“Community is one of the greatest gifts of Far Hills. Throughout the year, we have witnessed students learning together, supporting one another, performing together on stage, competing together on the field, and creating memories that will last long after this school year ends,” she shared.

Her remarks underscored one of Far Hills’ defining strengths: a community where students are known, supported, and encouraged to grow together.

As the ceremony concluded, there was a shared sense of pride, accomplishment, and anticipation for what lies ahead. Lower School Closing Exercises celebrated the achievements of the past year while marking the beginning of new opportunities. With summer on the horizon, students leave ready for new adventures, carrying with them the friendships, values, and experiences that have shaped their Lower School years.
