Adventure Trips are an extraordinary part of Far Hills tradition and culture. This winter, it was Grade 6's turn to go on their Adventure Trip to Frost Valley, NY.
The trip included many team building activities, as well as activities to help students work on their communication skills. Problem-solving, improving communication, and working with others to achieve a goal were common themes over the three days.
One such activity was Orienteering. After learning how to use a map and compass, students had work in teams to find stations on a 20-acre orienteering course in the woods. During this activity, students developed math skills, learned about topographic map reading, and used problem-solving skills.
Another activity students participated in required teamwork, communication, and even some coordination skills. During a series of wood, cable, and rope elements, they overcame challenges by working together, learned basic outdoor living skills, and learned how to keep our environment as natural and unharmed as possible.
Students also hiked to various Frost Valley destinations, including High Falls (of Running Wild with Bear Grylls and Zac Efron fame), a cable bridge, and a castle. They developed awareness and responsibility to environmentally sensitive areas. Students also used their power of observation to discover the world around them.
And that's not all. Our Grade 6 students also enjoyed snow tubing, archery, Gaga, and nighttime games.
During their time at Frost Valley, students were responsible for setting tables during mealtimes, as well as serving and cleaning. Because our Adventure Trips are fun, but they also focus on FH's five pillars: respect, responsibility, leadership, kindness, and honesty.
