Secondary School Admissions Panel Offers Valuable Insights

Secondary School Admissions Panel Offers Valuable Insights

On Thursday, May 1, families gathered for a special event at Far Hills Country Day School: a Secondary School Admissions Panel titled "Finding the Right Fit for Secondary School." The event featured admissions directors from some of the area’s most respected independent schools—Kent Place, Morristown Beard, Newark Academy, Oak Knoll, and Delbarton—who shared their expertise and advice on navigating the admissions process.

Moderated by Far Hills' Director of Placement and Development Officer, Ed Thompson, the panel discussion offered families a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insight into what secondary schools are looking for, how to approach the application process, and what steps to take when trying to find the best fit for their child. Mr. Thompson posed thoughtful questions to the panelists and also offered his own guidance based on his experience supporting the families through this important transition.

Throughout the event, panelists addressed a wide range of topics, from the importance of student voice in the application to how families can assess a school's culture and community. They emphasized that the admissions process is about more than just academic performance—it’s about understanding where a student will thrive, feel supported, and continue to grow.

Once the panel discussion concluded, families and students had the chance to visit individual tables hosted by each school. This portion allowed for personal conversations with the admissions directors, where families could ask specific questions, gather materials, and learn more about what makes each school unique.

Whether families were just beginning to explore secondary school options or simply looking to better understand the journey ahead, the event provided meaningful guidance and encouragement. "Finding the Right Fit for Secondary School" was an informative and supportive event designed to empower families as they take the next steps in their educational journey.
