New: Mountain Bike Trail, Pickleball/Tennis Courts

Far Hills Country Day School has officially unveiled a new mountain bike trail, pickleball courts, and refreshed tennis courts for the 2021–22 school year.

Michael Petillo, President of Petillo Inc., Far Hills Country Day School parent, and the school’s Chair of our Buildings and Grounds Committee, provided the leadership, manpower, and equipment to reconstruct the tennis courts that now feature pickleball court lines and clear our mountain bike trail.

“In addition to our four beautifully manicured athletic fields, three tennis courts, our on-campus one-mile cross country course, our Fitness Course, and our 15-element high and low ropes course, I have always wanted to add a mountain bike trail through the woods on campus because I like to include fitness activities that kids love to enjoy and that encourage lifetime fitness,” said Ron Sansone, Far Hills Country Day School Director of Athletics.

“Today and every day, we celebrate the wonder of our 54-acre campus that provides our students with incredible outdoor opportunities,” said Georgia S. Zaiser, Far Hills Country Day School Head of School. “Our campus offers our students so many ways to explore, connect, and learn. These new features will certainly be put to good use.”

“Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America, and although we have been playing in our Physical Education classes for years, we now have official nets, court lines, and equipment,” Sansone continued. “Mountain biking is also one of the fastest-growing sports in America; in fact, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been near impossible even to find a bike to purchase. We have a large population of students who mountain bike outside of school, so I wanted to provide them the opportunity to do it here at school. As a result, many other students are now taking an interest in both pickleball and mountain biking—both in and out of school.”

The many attractions on the Far Hills Country Day School campus are available for use by members of Far Hills Country Day School, including students, faculty, and staff.
