Getting to Know Far Hills Athletics

From Preschool youngers to eighth-grade commencement, B.E.A.T. is the message that our Far Hills Physical Education (P.E.) and Athletics programs strive to instill in our students.

That's us!
That's who we are!
That's what we strive to do every day!
That's Far Hills Physical Education and
That's Far Hills Athletics.

With the intent to build better athletes and conscientious individuals, our coaches work hard to design and implement a culture that promotes a positive, character-building athletic experience. Our "Win the Day" philosophy motivates our athletes to work hard and learn from mistakes, providing them with an opportunity to improve every day. With this in mind, we offer 15 athletic sports and coach more than twenty athletic teams, incorporating our philosophy with every opportunity.

Our program is fortunate to be able to facilitate our B.E.A.T. philosophy surrounded by first-class athletic facilities. Our indoor athletic facilities include:

  • two volleyball courts;
  • two basketball courts;
  • a traversing rock wall; and
  • a comprehensive fitness center complete with cardiovascular and strength training equipment.

Our extraordinary campus beautifully complements our indoor environment. We are fortunate to have:

  • four beautifully manicured soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse fields;
  • the Linda Houghland Fitness Course;
  • three brand new tennis courts; and
  • a gorgeous one-mile cross-country course.

Our P.E. and Athletic Department have recently added six pickleball courts and a mile-long mountain bike trail to grow, inspire, and encourage lifetime fitness for all of our students. Yes, our students bring their mountain bikes to school and ride in the woods during their school day!

The centerpiece of our outdoor facilities is our 15 low and high element ropes course, enveloped among the campus's glorious 100-year-old trees. Proudly, our Adventure program embodies the Far Hills Five Pillars of respect, responsibility, leadership, kindness, and honesty. Participation is a "challenge by choice," a principle that welcomes our students to stretch their physical limits, always encouraging their teammates to do the same.

Complementing our Adventure ropes course programming is our signature 8th-grade hiking trip to the Adirondacks, an excursion we proudly refer to as the "Northern Experience." Amazingly, the experience inevitably wraps itself in nostalgia as many of our students will summit the Adirondacks peaks and sit where many of their siblings, parents, and sometimes even grandparents have sat. While physically motivating, this trip provides so much more—it also develops our students' mental and emotional character.

It's with great pride that the Far Hills P.E., Athletic, and Adventure programs produce positive, lifelong changes in a community poised for growth and eager for the challenge.

Positive, significant, and lasting skills and experiences!

Yes, that's what Far Hills graduates carry with them—long after graduation.

Hike on!
Ride on!
Climb on!
Play on!
