This week’s #FeatureFriday highlights Far Hills eighth-grader Cayden Walton. Cayden has been named the 2021 recipient of the Blair Academy and Far Hills Endowed Scholarship Prize.
Recently the Walton family joined administrators from Far Hills and Blair Academy for a celebratory lunch.
Cayden surprised everyone in the room with the below speech:
I first want to say how appreciative I am that you chose me to be the award recipient. I am known to be an emotional person, but when I saw that I had received this amazing award, I had so many emotions at one time that I didn’t know how to feel. It made me so happy that someone saw something so great in me that they would invest so much in my success. I would like to thank you all for your help and support throughout the application process.
I want to thank you, Mrs. Zaiser, Mr. Thompson, and Mr. Kramer, for your belief in me and guidance -- I will make Far Hills proud.
And of course, I would like to give a big thank you to the Blair admission team for selecting me and seeing something within me, and letting me join the Blair family.
Finally, I would like to thank my mom and dad for making me the person I am today. I would like to thank you, mom, for taking me to visit Blair in 7th grade and helping me with my application, and sacrificing time and energy to get me to this position today. I would also like to thank you, dad, for pushing me every day to be the best that I can be.
This time next year, I will be at Blair, in history class, enjoying my classmates and getting ready for a fun weekend with friends.
Blair Academy surprised Cayden with a swag bag of goodies and an award plaque to express their excitement for him joining their community this fall.
