Celebrating Unity Day: Standing Together in Kindness and Respect
On Wednesday, October 22, the Far Hills community came together to celebrate Unity Day, a nationwide event dedicated to promoting kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Each year, schools across the country wear orange to show their commitment to creating safe and supportive environments for all students—and this year, our Falcons truly embodied that spirit.
The morning began with a meaningful community activity, Step Into the Circle, where students, faculty, and staff gathered in mixed-grade groups. Participants stepped forward in response to prompts such as, “Step into the circle if you like video games,” or “Step into the circle if you’ve ever helped a friend.” With each statement, the circle came alive with laughter, reflection, and connection. This simple act offered a powerful visual reminder of how much we share in common, reinforcing the values of empathy, understanding, and respect at the heart of Unity Day.
Later, our Student Council led a creative and heartfelt project, crafting bright orange paper hearts for every homeroom. Each student signed a heart and added a message of kindness, encouragement, or unity. Throughout the day, these hearts circulated through classrooms before being combined by the Lower School into one large heart—a striking display now showcased in the Café. The finished piece serves as a daily reminder of what the Far Hills community stands for: compassion, connection, and inclusion.
The energy of Unity Day extended far beyond the scheduled activities. Conversations about kindness and empathy continued in classrooms, at lunch tables, and even on the playground. Teachers encouraged students to think about what it truly means to be an upstander—and how small acts, like offering help, listening, or including someone new, can make a lasting impact.
Unity Day at Far Hills was more than a celebration—it was an opportunity for our community to pause, reflect, and recommit to the values that make our school so special. Through shared experiences, creativity, and conversation, our Falcons strengthened the bonds that connect us all and celebrated what it means to stand together in unity every day.
