I did not realize it at the time, but Mrs. Houghland taught me to love movement. Some of my favorite memories of Mrs. Houghland were in middle school fitness where a small group of (mainly) females congregated to do yoga, dance, and take long walks on warm afternoons. Additionally, Mrs. Houghland planned trips to a local restaurant for us to see a belly dancing presentation, which was always a yearly highlight. While throughout high school movement was associated with competitive sports and in college with body image, perspective and the pandemic has led me back to movement that brings me joy. I am so grateful that Mrs. Houghland introduced me to a variety of ways to move, but more importantly inspired a love for all my body can do.
