Honoring the Past: Reflecting on Holocaust Remembrance Day
On Holocaust Remembrance Day, Monday, January 27, the Far Hills community paused to honor the millions of lives lost during one of history's darkest periods.
The day began with a meaningful moment during the Upper School community meeting, where the Director of Upper School, Emily Seealus, addressed students and faculty. Emily emphasized the significance of this day, encouraging everyone to not only remember the past but also to consider the impact of their actions in the present.
Emily concluded her presentation with a poignant message: “Be mindful of how you treat others and always do it with respect and kindness.” This theme resonated throughout the week, inspiring students to reflect on how they can contribute to creating a more compassionate and inclusive community.
Upper School teachers then led discussions and showed videos on Tuesday, January 28 to further the message throughout the week and to deepen understanding and reflection. These conversations provided a space for students to explore the historical and emotional weight of the Holocaust while considering its relevance in today’s world.
Holocaust Remembrance Day is not just about looking back—it’s a call to action for the future. By fostering awareness and encouraging meaningful dialogue, the Far Hills community honors the memories of those who were lost while committing to the values of kindness, understanding, and respect in everyday life.
