Finding Their Voice: Student Council Elections at Far Hills

Leadership took center stage in the Upper School as 10 Grade 7 and Grade 8 students stepped forward as candidates for this year’s Student Council.

Student Council plays an important role in the Upper School community, with a focus on fostering an inclusive school environment and serving others through organized projects and events. Members are also responsible for planning and leading weekly community meetings and keeping students and faculty informed about programs, events, and opportunities throughout the year.

In the weeks leading up to the election, the candidates went above and beyond to make their voices heard. Campaigning could be seen and heard throughout the Upper School, from word-of-mouth conversations with classmates to creative, student-designed posters displayed around campus. Each candidate found their own way to share their ideas, connect with fellow students, and explain why they wanted to serve their school community.

The campaigns culminated on Thursday, September 24, and Friday, September 25, when all 10 candidates delivered speeches before the Upper School, faculty and staff, and several parents. Standing in front of an audience is not always easy, but each student stepped up with confidence and courage, clearly sharing their ideas and demonstrating their commitment to Far Hills.

More than simply asking for votes, the speeches reflected an important part of what it means to be a Far Hills student: finding the courage to stand up even when you may be nervous, using your voice with purpose, and thinking about how you can contribute to the community around you. Each candidate showed a willingness to take a risk, speak from the heart, and be there for the students they hoped to represent.

This year’s four Student Council members are Grade 7 students Barret M. ’28 and Kiran L. ’28, and Grade 8 students Amanda M. ’27 and Chase F. ’27. Together, they will take on the responsibility of representing their peers, helping lead weekly community meetings, and creating opportunities that bring the Upper School community together throughout the year.

Congratulations to Barret, Kiran, Amanda, and Chase, and to all 10 candidates who stepped forward, shared their ideas, and demonstrated leadership throughout the election process. We are proud of each student who had the courage to put their name forward and make their voice heard.
