A Day Rooted in Connection: Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Day 2026
On Friday, May 8, Far Hills Country Day School welcomed grandparents and special friends to campus for one of the community’s most cherished traditions: Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Day. Filled with joyful reunions, meaningful classroom moments, and performances spanning Preschool through Grade 8, the morning celebrated the relationships that help shape and support every Far Hills student.
The day began with a breakfast reception in the Athletic Center, where guests gathered alongside faculty, staff, and fellow families to reconnect and reflect. For many, the event marked a return to familiar hallways and traditions, an especially meaningful experience for the many multigenerational Far Hills families who continue to call the school home. Conversations flowed easily as stories were shared, memories revisited, and excitement built for the morning ahead.
Adding to the excitement of the morning, Far Hills’ Kindergarten students transformed the Piazza into “Mathland,” a hands-on math experience designed to showcase their learning in an engaging and interactive way. Grandparents and special friends explored student-led stations like Problem Solving Pond, The Shape Shack, and The Dime Store, where games and activities centered around skills such as skip counting, estimation, and problem-solving. The space was filled with laughter, curiosity, and proud “look what I can do!” moments as students eagerly guided their guests through each activity. One of the most memorable aspects of Mathland was watching the Kindergarteners confidently step into the role of teacher, leading, explaining, and celebrating each success alongside their loved ones.
Following the reception, guests made their way across campus for classroom visits led by their students. Proudly stepping into the role of host, students guided grandparents and special friends through their daily routines, introduced teachers and classmates, and shared favorite subjects and projects. From hands-on activities in the classrooms to moments of laughter and curiosity throughout campus, the visits offered guests a genuine glimpse into the energy and spirit of daily life at Far Hills.
For many grandparents and special friends, these moments are among the most meaningful parts of the day, an opportunity to experience school through their students’ eyes and witness firsthand the confidence, joy, and engagement that define the Far Hills experience.
The morning concluded with a Preschool–Grade 8 concert in the Performing Arts Center, where students filled the space with music, enthusiasm, and school spirit. From the youngest learners to the Class of 2026, each performance reflected the creativity, collaboration, and confidence nurtured throughout every stage of a Far Hills education. The concert served as both a celebration and a reflection of the vibrant community shared across divisions and generations alike.
“The opportunity to welcome grandparents and special friends to campus each year is incredibly meaningful because it reflects the deep sense of continuity within our community,” shared Head of School Georgia Zaiser. “For many families, Far Hills has been part of their story for years, and in some cases, generations. It’s always special to see returning grandparents walking the halls again, reconnecting with teachers, traditions, and the experiences their students are having today. Days like this remind us that a Far Hills education is strengthened by the relationships and support systems that surround our students.”
Throughout the morning, the strength of the Far Hills community was unmistakable. Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Day serves as a powerful reminder that education is shaped not only in the classroom but also by the generations of encouragement, support, and care surrounding students every step of the way.
