Homework, Sleep and Nutrition

Homework, Sleep, and Nutrition

Balance. Between work and play, between activity and rest, and even between food groups. We strive to help our students understand and maintain balance in their lives to ensure they are prepared, both physically and emotionally, to learn, retain what they learn and thrive to reach their potential.

Research shows that adequate sleep improves memory and has an enduring positive impact on mood and behavior.

Upper School

The daily demands of academics and extra-curricular activities increase in Upper School as young adolescents begin their journey of self-discovery. In addition to answering questions about Shakespeare and the Pythagorean theorem, they are also seeking answers to who they are and their place in the world.

Our team works diligently with students to hone their time management skills to set them up for success as well as to prepare them for their secondary school careers. Faculty and advisors are sensitive to managing stress and its negative impact on students' learning and wellness; therefore, once a month, students enjoy a homework free weekend.

Grades 5–6:

  • Homework
    • 50–60 minutes
  • Sleep
    • 10–11 hours/night

Grades 7–8:

  • Homework
    • 60–80 minutes
  • Sleep
    • 8.5–9.5 hours/night
