All classes will begin the week of September 24, 2018.

  • The Kestrel House Musical for Fall 2018 will be Once on This Island, Jr.  The Broadway smash hit won the 2018 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. The students will audition on September 24 & 27. Rehearsals will go throughout October and November two days per week, Monday and Thursday, for all participants. 

  • Enrichment classes will not be held when there is a 2 p.m. dismissal.
     
  • Extended Day and Enrichment do not take place on days when there is a 12 p.m. dismissal.

Mondays

Intro to Piano—6 spaces available *CLASS FULL*

Instructor: Jessica Fielding, Conservatory Teacher at FH

  • Grades: PreK4–Grade 1
  • Time: 3:30 p.m.–4:15 p.m.

Do you have a four-, five-, or six-year-old year old student who is interested in piano? This class is a great place to start. Intro to Piano is geared for young children to learn the basics of piano in a group setting. Ms. Jessica Fielding, a Music Conservatory teacher at Far Hills, teaches this course using the Music for Little Mozarts curriculum. This curriculum is written specifically for young ages and provides a balance between the discipline necessary for playing the piano, and the enjoyment one receives from the process of music making. Papercraft Pizazz!—10 spaces available

Instructor: Darcy Petrie, Teacher at FH

Explore an endless array of imaginative paper possibilities!  Students will use a variety of papers and tools to create original pieces including paper jewelry, optical illusions, shadow crafts, kites, origami, fantasy animals, puppets, mosaics, and more. Only 10 spaces available.   

All The Favorites: Holiday Foods (Cooking)—10 spaces available

Instructor: Jill Tuazon, Teacher at FH

The holiday season is right around the corner. Why not treat your young chef to a complete hands-on cooking experience, and leave all the planning, prep and cleanup to us. After each class, your student will go home with the food we have cooked. At the end of the 8 weeks, everyone will take home a recipe book. See you in the kitchen! Only 10 spaces available.

Rehearsals will go throughout October and November two days per week for all participants We really gear up when we return from Thanksgiving break to prepare for the performance on Friday, December 14.

Book and Cook!—12 spaces available

Instructor: Danielle L'Heureux, Teacher at FH

Join Mrs. L’Heureux to read favorite children’s books and create foods inspired by stories that will bring characters and themes to life in a memorable and "digestible" way! Participants engage in exciting, hands-on cooking activities. This literature-based cooking enrichment will survey growing food, healthy eating, table manners and more. Our recipe preparation will be fun and help us practice skills including weighing and measuring, following directions, food hygiene, and recognizing ingredients. Only 12 spaces available.

Rugby!

Instructor: Peter McBride, Teacher at FH

Join Mr. McBride as he shares his love for the Prop, Lock, Fly, Flankers and Scrums. If you want to learn all about Rugby, this is the class for you. All skills, drills and games will be played like flag football. Do not miss your chance to become a Rugby player.

Robotics Challenge with Dash & Dot Robots

Instructor: Monica Lluch, EdTech Consultant

Following the Wonder Robotics Missions, students will work in Teams of 2-4 to solve story-based robotics challenges.  Each team will compete to problem solve, code, test and redesign their solutions to the challenges provided. Students will be documenting and sharing their process during this weekly enrichment period.

Master Kwon’s Tae Kwon Do

Instructor: Master Kwon

  • Grades: PreK4–Grade 3
  • Time: 3:30–4:30 p.m.

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art with an emphasis on kicking. This action-oriented class involves kicking, punching, self-defense and basic hand motions. There will also be obstacle courses, stretching, and board breaking. The class is oriented toward skills accomplishment and progressive learning. At the conclusion of the class there is a test for the students to achieve their next color belt, there is an additional fee involved. Testing is optional. Additional $25 uniform purchase required if your child does not already own one.

TGA Golf *CLASS FULL*

TGA stands for Teach-Grow-Achieve. TGA makes it convenient and fun for your child to learn and play golf right on their school campus! Our curriculums were specially designed by industry-leading golf professionals and education specialists to ensure that the lesson plans are age-appropriate and easy to understand and retain. Students will experience a mix of golf instruction, rules and etiquette lessons, educational components, character development lessons and physical activity as they advance through the five-level program. Our screened and certified instructors have a passion for working with children and are trained to help your student-athlete develop a strong foundation of skills and knowledge as well as a passion for the sport. These concepts are the foundation of our program. We introduce the life-long sport of golf at a young age that provides a safe and fun enriching experience for children. Our golf coach will help your child develop their skills and passion for golf. TGA prides themselves on your child walking away from their programs having learned life skills such as respect, honesty, perseverance and sportsmanship. Only 10 spaces available.

LEGO Engineering—14 spaces available

Did you know that engineering concepts used by professionals can be taught through LEGO construction? Lego building is about playful and meaningful learning experiences with real world connections. Students will be actively engaged with construction projects while exploring, creating and problem-solving with peers. The class culminates in a LEGO Museum of the student's work. The students will showcase their masterpieces as well as document the production process.

Fun with Yoga and Mindfulness

Instructor: Sue Miller, Teacher at FH

  • Grades: 2–4
  • Time: 3:45–4:45 p.m.

Join Mrs. Miller for an opportunity to focus on awareness of self and others through the practice of yoga and mindfulness. The class will include fun and inspiring body-and-mind-aligning yoga practice, read alouds with a character building focus, guided mindfulness, journaling and crafts. Mrs. Miller is a 95-hour certified kids yoga instructor through Grounded Kids Yoga. She is also trained through the Mindful Schools to work with kids in mindfulness-based social emotional learning experiences.

Kiddie Soccer

Instructor: Kiddie Soccer Coaches

  • Grades: PreK4–Grade 1
  • Time: 3:30–4:30 p.m.

Kiddie Soccer is a fun-filled and age appropriate soccer program for PreK–Grade 1 boys and girls. The sessions are based on various thematic games that are fun and non-competitive, yet instructional. The coaching staff are men and women who coach and play soccer, but more importantly, are experienced in working with young children. All participants receive a Kiddie Soccer t-shirt after the first class, and a Kiddie Soccer participation medal when the class concludes.

Girls Field Hockey

Instructor: Bridget Walsh, Field Hockey Coach at FH

Join Coach Walsh as you prepare to work on skills, drills and game strategies. Every class ends with a fun and competitive game. We will provide sticks & shin guards. Please provide your own mouth guard.
