Applying to Far Hills

Step 1: Application Form 

Complete and submit the online application. 

Once the application is submitted, then a school visit for the applicant will be scheduled with the family.

Step 2: Teacher Recommendation

A teacher recommendation is required from the child’s current teacher, which the family sends through the application portal. If the child is not currently in school, then the Admission Office will advise you on this requirement.

Step 3: Classroom Visits, Learning Assessment, Parent Conversation

Preschool and Kindergarten applicants will participate in a classroom visit where they will interact with our teachers and the other students. During this time, teachers assess the applicants within the social context of the classroom and spend one-on-one time with each applicant. Once the application is submitted, the Admission Office will contact the family to schedule the visit. 

Please note that Preschool applicants attend a scheduled admission playgroup in January/February during the regular admission season. If a child applies during rolling admission then more information will be provided to the family at the time the application is received. Kindergarten applicants will visit their peers' classrooms for approximately 90 minutes, and a snack will be provided. If a visiting student needs medication dispensed during their visit, please contact the Admission office prior to the visit so that our nurse can connect with the family.

Parent Conversations will be scheduled to coordinate with the applicant's visit. The purpose of the conversation is to learn more about the applicant from the parent's perspective, answer questions, and provide any additional information needed by Far Hills Country Day School or the family. Conversations typically take thirty minutes.

Step 2: School Records and Teacher Recommendation

A teacher recommendation is required from the child’s current teacher, which the family sends through the application portal. The application portal also submits the transcript/report card recommendation to the current school.

Step 3: Classroom Visits, Learning Assessment, Parent Conversation

Grades 1–4 applicants spend a morning (8:15–11:15 a.m.) visiting classrooms in their current grade level, giving both the applicant and our teachers the opportunity to get to know one another. Learning Assessments are given during the student's visit. Lunch is not provided, but a morning snack is. Visitors are encouraged to bring a water bottle with them, but no other school supplies are needed. If a visiting student needs medication dispensed during their visit, please contact the Admission Office before the visit so that our nurse can connect with the family.

Two teacher recommendations are required from the child’s current Math teacher and English teacher, which the family sends through the application portal. The transcript/report card recommendation is also submitted to the current school through the application portal.

Step 3: Classroom Visits, Learning Assessment, Parent Conversation

Grades 5–8 applicants spend the day (8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.) where they are hosted by a student ambassador and visit classrooms in their current grade level, giving both the applicant and our teachers the opportunity to get to know one another. Morning snack and lunch are provided, so please note any allergies on the application. If a visiting student needs medication dispensed during their visit, please contact the Admission Office before the visit so that our nurse can connect with the family.

Step 4: Admission Testing

The results from one standardized test from the current school year is required. We accept the following: NJASK, IOWA, SSAT, ISEE. If your child does not have a current standardized test result to submit, please visit the Educational Records Bureau's (ERB) website at https://www.erblearn.org/ to schedule a date for your child to take the ISEE.
