J. Thomas Woelper, Head of School

J. Thomas (“Tom”) Woelper is responsible for the educational direction and leadership of the school. He has been Head of School since the 2014-15 school year.

Mr. Woelper’s educational philosophy centers on putting students first, especially when implementing changes to policy and curricula. He believes in developing the whole child and creating inclusive school communities where individuals share responsibility for what the school is and can be.

Prior to joining Far Hills, he served as the Assistant Head of School and the Dean of Academic Life at The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT. During his thirteen years at the school, he also acted as Director of Financial Aid, Assistant Director of Admission, and a member of the teaching faculty. His involvement in the school extended to dorm parent, coach, and advisor.

Mr. Woelper attended Teachers College, Columbia University where he received his M.A. in Educational Administration with a focus in Private School Leadership in 2002. He holds an M.A. in History from the University of Connecticut and an A.B. in History from Princeton University. He earned his high school diploma from The Lawrenceville School in 1984.

Tom and his wife, Heidi, have two sons who both attend Far Hills. He enjoys hiking with his wife and Labrador retriever, listening to books on tape as a family, reading nonfiction, and traveling. He favorite travel locales include Colombia, Italy, and Southeast Asia.
