James Heckman '97 Visits FHCDS!
1/11/2010
The Second Grade was honored to have James Heckman ’97 return to FHCDS speak to them as part of their unit on Heroes. James shared some of his experiences as part of the Submariners Division in the United States Navy. The children excitedly watched his video on submarines and asked excellent questions from “how do you earn a dolphin (crest)?” to “how does sonar work?” Following the discussion, James gave the students and FHCDS a special treat: a flag that flew on his submarine, the USS Philadelphia, which is stationed in the Middle East and is retiring in the near future. He also taught the students how to handle and fold the flag appropriately. To learn more about James and his role in the Navy, watch for William Agathis ‘10 and Ryan McCluskey’s ‘10 upcoming article based on their interview with James in the next Green & White Gazette!
Please join all of us at FHCDS in saluting James for his service to FHCDS and his country and in wishing him well in his new job with Marine One, the helicopter squadron that is solely responsible for flying the President. Best of luck, James!
